A Year of Watershed Weekly
By Producer, Kelly Meinhart
s
the end of the first year of Watershed Weekly came upon me this
past September I found myself asking "Where has this past year
gone?" The first year of Watershed Weekly has been a whirlwind
of watershed activities, volunteers, projects and events.
'd
like to take this time to thank the watershed community for
its dedication, hard work, ingenuity, and guts. Yes guts. This
is not a group who is afraid to speak up to tell the world about
the problems with our waters, nor is it a group who is afraid
to get its hands dirty!
've
been with people knee-deep in abandoned mine drainage sludge,
identifying critters that look alien, spending every Saturday
planting trees and wetland plants, or simply attending training
sessions and conferences to gain even more knowledge about that
which they love - our watersheds.
here
are many commonalities among the watershed groups in our commonwealth,
but the most astounding is WHY people are putting so much effort
into cleaning and protecting the health of our waterways. They
do it because of love. Love for our environment, and love for
their children. Everyone wants to make this a better world for
the next generation. We can. And we are.
nother thing that I've found throughout this beautiful state, (and I've now been from Erie to Washington County to Scranton and back down to Philly - and everywhere in between), is that the watershed community is a warm, energetic, inspiring group of individuals with passion that won't quit! They have taken me into their watersheds, spent entire days with me at their sites, taken me on tours, shared lunch, even had me as a guest at their homes - all because they have an amazing story to tell.
t is with great sincerity that I thank everyone in the watershed community for inspiring me, as an individual, and as a Producer. I have been inspired not only to have Watershed Weekly speak for them, but also to do MY part as a watershed steward.
heir warmth, drive, and love of the environment are a true inspiration and I am grateful for all the work these stewards are doing for Pennsylvania.
look forward to the future of Watershed Weekly, and to getting out into even more communities to share the vision of our watershed stewards. Thank you to all who have helped in making Watershed Weekly a reality!
