Water Fund is working locally, statewide as well as nationally
to protect our water sources. The founder and president of
Clean Water Fund, David Zwick, was a driving force in the
creation of the Federal Clean Water Act in 1972. This week
we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the passage of this landmark
legislation. The Clean Water Act has helped clean up waterways
all over the United States by setting uniform minimum standards
of protection that all states must abide by. The Clean Water
Act sets standards for pollution discharges into our rivers,
lakes and streams, many of which are the sources of our drinking
water.
mplementation
of the Clean Water Act has made our waterways in the US cleaner,
but we still have a long way to go to attain the stated goal
of the law "that the discharge of pollutants into navigable
waters be eliminated" and "the discharge of toxic
pollutants in toxic amounts be prohibited." Clean Water
Fund continues to do research and educate citizens and policy
makers so we can stop pollution and leave our children cleaner,
healthier rivers, lakes, streams, wetlands, coastal waters
and drinking water supplies.
