University of Maine’s Marine Science Program
By Kelly Meinhart, Producer

recently ventured to Orono, Maine to take part in a weeklong media fellowship through the University of Maine’s Marine Science program. One of ten participants, I joined professional journalists and media representatives to learn more about the Gulf of Maine, the different fisheries, and the aquaculture businesses and practices that are being incorporated there.

hile our journey began in Orono, which is near Bangor, we traveled approximately an hour and a half south to the coast and then began making our way up along the coast toward Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.

s you’ll see in the presentation, we learned a lot about science, oceanography and aquaculture throughout the week via presentations, on-site visits, and first hand encounters. For additional information about my trip, you can also visit the Watersheds.tv website and click on the Between Cattails feature which will air on June 15th. The feature takes an extended look at the trip, and provides additional photos.
