Governor's Award for Watershed Stewardship

oth the Watershed Weekly website, produced by EFP/GreenWorks, and the printed newsletter produced by POWR, are winners of this year's Governor's Award for Watershed Stewardship.

n a ceremony hosted by Governor Mark Schweiker and DEP Secretary David E. Hess, twenty four awards were given to this year's recipients in the categories of: Demonstration, Education and Outreach; Partnerships; Protection and Restoration; Assessment and Planning; and a special award to the Watershed Stewardship Educator of the Year.

he Watershed Weekly website and webcast won in the category of Demonstration, Education and Outreach, while POWR's newsletter won in the category of Partnerships. Mike Yeager, teacher at Milton High School, and previously spotlighted on the Watershed Weekly website, received the Watershed Stewardship Educator of the Year award. Mike andhis students have a passion for protecting Limestone Run, and have developed a project to assess this waterway through classroom teachings and in-the-field data collection. Under Mike's leadership, approximately 40 ninth through twelfth graders have completed a macroinvertebrate stream assessment, a fish survey, and several chemical tests. They also study wetlands, soils and streambank characteristics. You can learn more about the Milton High School program by visiting the link provided below.
