Dennis Creek "A Working Partnership"

Creek has made an impressive comeback thanks to the folks of
the Franklin County Watershed Association, local farmers and
state and local environmental agencies. The story began several
years ago, as the community members took a good look at Dennis
Creek to try to decide how to repair the damage caused by years
of agricultural and logging impacts. he
creek itself has pristine headwaters located just beyond Chambersburg
and the Kittatiny Mountain Ridge. But nutrient runoff and the
presence of cattle in the stream have degraded both the macroinvertebrate
life living within the stream as well as the streambanks themselves.
n order to get the job done the watershed association and local
officials have been working in partnership with area farmers
to improve both Dennis Creek as well as the farmlands.
hey’ve successfully fenced cattle out of the stream, completed
vegetative buffer areas, restored wetlands previously drained
for agricultural purposes, and ultimately, improved the health
of Dennis Creek. e
sure to watch the success of Dennis Creek and all the partners
involved with this story. Congratulations to all involved.
