Bald Eagle Watershed Awareness Day
Introduction by Kelly Meinhart, Producer
 his
past May Pennsylvanians across the state celebrated ‘Watershed
Awareness Month’ through a variety of educational, fun,
innovative programs. Some communities organized nature walks,
public speaking events with naturalists, watershed clean-ups,
and many pulled out all the stops to organize a daylong or even
weekend-long festival or educational event.
ur
GreenWorks Producer, Peggy Bradley, traveled to North Central
Pa to the Bald Eagle State Park, to take part in one of these
events – the Bald Eagle Watershed Awareness Day. Sponsored
by DCNR and other partners, the event offered education in a
fun atmosphere, including; fly-fishing 101, fishing techniques,
water quality data and research, the history of the Susquehanna
River, and the Cultural history of the Susquehanna River basin.
Not to forget, “What is a watershed” discussions
and displays.
he
focus of the event was education and empowerment – empowering
people to take charge of their own environment, to protect it
for themselves and future generations. Celebrating Watershed
Awareness Month is quickly becoming a tradition in Pennsylvania,
only the second year in its celebration, the organizers hope
that more people become aware of their watersheds and realize
that no matter where you live – you’re in a watershed.
