Save Our Rivers

n 1981, the Florida Legislature enacted a program known as "Save Our Rivers (SOR)", and created the Water Management Lands Trust Fund. The trust fund receives revenues from the documentary stamp tax and is administered by the Department of Environmental Protection.

he SOR act enables the water management districts to acquire lands necessary for water management, water supply, and the conservation and protection of water resources.

roducer, Cindy Rezabeck previously worked for the South Florida Water Management District, which works with the Save Our Rivers program to protect the valuable waters of the Everglades and Southern Florida.

n her production, "Land for Water's Sake," the history of South Florida's lands is revealed. Prior to 1940, much of the habitat of Southern Florida was wetland areas that provided habitat for a variety of plants, reptiles, birds and mammals. Man's desire to drain these valuable lands has almost been the demise of them. Learn how mans actions have affected the Everglades, and how various management methods are being used to restore them to their original pristine state.

indy has recently moved to Pittsburgh, PA, and will be appearing again on Watershed Weekly. Thank you to Cindy and to the South Florida Management District for their efforts.
