Almost everything we do requires energy and most of the products and services we use have energy “histories” that we don't see. In the U.S., more than half of our electricity is generated by burning coal. Mining affects the health of people, wildlife, and water systems; combustion emits pollutants that cause acid rain, smog, and contribute to global warming. Fortunately, cleaner, greener alternatives exist.
