Throughout
Southeastern Pennsylvania neighborhoods, residents are trying
to protect and enhance their quality of life. By integrating
stormwater management strategies into their community development
plans, they address important issues such as flood minimization,
green and open space protection, clean water and air, and
an aesthetically pleasing environment.
For
more than a decade, local government, businesses, non-profits
and citizen groups have recognized the need to manage stormwater
in a way that supports both a community's infrastructure
and addresses its natural resource demands. The varied efforts
to respond to these needs include state sponsored stormwater
management plans, regional watershed management plans, open
space planning, vacant land reuse and community planning.
The
Urban Watersheds Revitalization Conference will feature inspiring
presentations that illustrate developments that are considerate
of neighborhood character, infrastructure and the environment,
and respect a community's multiple needs.
These projects will illustrate a community's ability
to achieve its goals through utilizing urban and suburban
stormwater best management practices (BMPs). Other projects
featured at the conference will demonstrate costs of BMPs
versus standard stormwater management in development and
opportunities to monitor the impact of such development on
the local economy, environment, community, and neighborhood
aesthetics.
Participants will have the opportunity to network with other attendees,
learn about success stories and obstacles faced by other communities,
and participate in the 1st Stormwater BMP Recognition Awards Ceremony.
