Michael D. Smith

Associate Director of Facilities Administration and Director of Housekeeping at Drexel University, has been the treasurer for the Greater Philadelphia Commercial Recycling Council since early 2003.

Previously, Mike was the President of Local #1592 International Union of Electrical Workers from 1974 to 1982. He worked from 1982 to 1997 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Environmental Services, and from 1997 to the present time, Mike has and continues to be a highly respected and valued employee of Drexel University.

Mike has been very instrumental in developing recognized major recycling programs at both the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University. Mike revamped the solid and infections waste streams at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the solid waste streams at Drexel University saving both Universities' 100's of thousands of dollars. Major corporations have given recognition to Mike for these accomplishments in waste reduction and recycling.
