Steel is also synonymous with Pennsylvania. For nearly a century,
Pittsburgh was the steel capital of the world. The abundance
of iron ore attraced men from all over the country as well as
European immigrants. It was used for rails as the nations locomotive
industry emerged. Structural steel built modern cities and was
used for national defense. It brought wealth and big problems.
