The Plight of Pennsylvania's Farmlands

Since the end of World War II, Pennsylvania has been flourishing. Residents are achieving the American Dream of owning homes and cars. Super highways are constantly being built or reconstructed. During the past 50 years, people have moved out of the cities creating huge housing developments. This phenomenon is known as Urban Sprawl. Land is a non-renewable resource.

Land development is the state’s booming industry, but it’s also the most pressing environmental issue facing Pennsylvania today.

What environmental problem is created when parking lots, roads and other solid surfaces cover the area where water would naturally flow back into the ground?

A. Tidal Waves

B. Run off

C. Meteor Showers
