| The Envirothon, which began as the Environmental Olympics
in Pennsylvania in 1979, now has teams from 40 states and 3 Canadian
provinces. Students study aquatics, forestry, soils, and wildlife
then compete on county, state, and national levels. The real benefits,
though, are the experiences that stay with students long after the
competition is over. Here, two Envirothon alumni talk about their
memories of their championship team.
This year's team representing Pennsylvania, from North East High
School in Erie County, captured the 2001 Canon National Envirothon
(teams from PA have won this competition eight of its' fourteen
years).
