Lehigh River Sojourn Journal Evening 1
Nick S. June 21, 2002 Today the Albright family and my family met together to go to Mauch Chunk Lake. We found Mr.Mauser at campsite E and stacked up the materials we brought. After that we put our tents together. All the families were involved with this task. We were missing some stakes or had to many stakes, so that made the situation a little more complicated. Later on we registered at the pavilion. When we registered we got a Lehigh River Sojourn T-shirt and a waterbottle. We then went back up to camp and ate dinner. I had a sandwich with bacon, lettuce, and mayonnaise. The Albrights and Mr.Mauser had assorted sandwiches. After that we talked about school and our family's careers. Soon after it was time for my mom, sister, brother, and dog to go home. I felt sad because this was the first time I camped out or did any canoeing. I knew I would miss them, but I also knew I would have a fun time. After our family's left we had some time before the evening program, so Mr.Mauser took us fishing. We learned the difference between a pumpkinseed sunfish and green sunfish. When it was time, we took our fishing gear back to camp and went to the pavilion for the program. Maureen Lynch talked to us about the area hundreds of millions of years ago. Mauch Chunk was once called the Appalachian Sea. It was covered by water and that's where all the fossil fuels began. A lot of our natural resources came from the layers that built up after the millions of years. After the history and program we went back to camp and brushed our teeth. Mr.Mauser took us down to the lake to try and fish where we saw a water snake. After fishing we went back to camp and went to bed. |
