All over the country communities have discovered the rewards of urban gardens. And Philadelphia's communities have transformed more trash-strewn vacant lots into beautiful and bountiful gardens than any other city in the United States.

465 community vegetable gardens and over 1,000 flower gardens are alive in Philadelphia's neighborhoods. There are 618 families involved in producing over $1.5 million worth of food in Philadelphia's urban gardens.
