Asthma is a chronic lung disease that causes breathing problems and can be life threatening. Asthma is a particularly scary affliction for children, and in some areas, asthma is now the leading cause of missed school days. The ways that people develop asthma are not entirely known, but many of the triggers that cause asthma attacks are clearly recognized and preventable. Find out how to help asthmatic children breath normally by learning some of the proactive and surprisingly easy measures that can be taken to prevent asthma attacks.

If there’s something strange, clogging up your lungs, who you gonna call? Asthma Busters! Why Asthma Busters? Because their big, red, double- decker, London-style bus captures the attention of kids every time. On the top deck, kids watch an informative video about the condition and also get screened for it. The bottom deck is a sort of museum, in which educator Sarah Matthews teaches them everything they need to know about dealing with the disease. Far from "strange," asthma is actually a common affliction whose triggers can typically be controlled. Get on the bus!

Cockroaches and dust bunnies beware, CAPP’s coming! The "trigger" -happy trainers of the Community Asthma Prevention Program are glad to make house visits, if it means educating parents on how to recognize and remove the environmental causes that set off their children’s asthma attacks. Learn ways to reduce asthma triggers in the home, and about an empowering program in which neighbors are helping neighbors, in this informative video segment on CAPP.

Kids say the darnedest things. But they can also be remarkably insightful. Learn what kids with asthma have to say about what it is like to have an "episode" and what they plan to do in the future if one occurs. A program called Open Airways gives asthmatic students the opportunity to talk to one another about their disease, and to learn the ways they can minimize its effects. Find out what these incredibly cute and smart kids have to say.
